The final great machine released by Commodore, Escom a German company did keep the machine alive a few extra year but due to their business practises things went awry and the Amiga died. This is a proper Commodore machine though :)
This has 2Mb ram and the far superior AGA chipset for graphics. 3D games run a lot smoother with it. The 1200 also has the PCMCIA slot on the side for writing discs and connecting other peripherals.
When I got this half the keyboard wasn't working, I did find a rather nasty but working keyboard on eBay so removed the membrane from it (29 small screws!!) and swapped them over. I did manage to repair the other membrane so only 1 or 2 keys aren't working so that is now stored safely as a backup (I carefully removed the tracks with a sharp knife and redrawn them with silver conductive paint)
I have installed a 4Gb Compact Flash hard drive which I bought from eBay and it had WHD Load and a metric ton of games ready to go once I installed the Workbench Operating System. Additionally I upgraded the Kickstart Rom files from 3.0 to 3.1 for best compatibility if I wanted to really go to town in the future with a newer Cloanto OS
Now the thing with WHD Load is that a lot of the games won't work on a stock machine so I managed to find 2Mb PCMCIA card that slots into the side giving extra available memory so more games can run. The only stuff that doesn't work are the games that have 6 or more discs as WHD Load loads all of them into ram and if enough isn't there won't start. What I have now though is more than enough and the games that have more discs i try to source and buy them.
